At one end of the Taipei metro / MRT redline is a little riverside town called Tamsui, which has also been known as Danshui. It is located next to Danshui / Tamsui River.
It is actually only one metro stop past the Tapei Metro Guide's Metro Scenic Spots recommendation number 1: Mangrove Naturale Reserve (metro stop Hongshulin Station, exit 2). So if you are trekking to the nature reserve, definitely consider also making one additional stop at Tamsui.
